Tense moments. Planning to go out with your date but wonderin' what you're gonna do. Here are a few tips to see you through.
1. Be punctual. Leave your house early and make room for any last minute blips that may creep up. Girls don't like to be kept waiting.
2. Plan your day, but be open to her views as well
3. Dress elegantly. Look neither too cool nor overtly formal.
4. Pick your date from her house. And don't forget to ask for directions so that you are able to reach there in time
5. Buying flowers for her is a good way to strike the right note. If the date went off well, you may get the flowers delivered to your lady's house the next day
6. Don't walk in front of your date. Either walk besides her or a step behind. It's nothing to do with ego. It's not good manners to show your back to someone you are with.
7. Pull the chair for her and wait for her to sit. Remember etiquette is much appreciated.
8. In the same vein, open the car door for her. It's better if you can wait for her to sit and then close the door. Then see if she is considerate enough to reach out and open the door for you.
9. Greet her with a firm but gentle handshake, and a smile.
10. Maintain eye contact, but don't stare.
11. Don't let the focus of the conversation be "I, me and myself". Ask about your date's interests, likes et al. Try to know her. But don't ask personal and probing questions if it's the first date.
12. When you ask a question, wait for the response and let her finish saying what she has to say.
13. Be tidy and smell good.
14. If you like to chew gum, keep your mouth closed. Don't chew like cows.
15. Be courteous.
16. While ordering meals, if you don't understand a dish, ask the waiter for its description.
17. Don't let cell phones or pagers disturb you.
18. Learn to compliment.
19. Go to places which are not too crowded or noisy, so that you both can feel at ease and talk freely.
20. Don't keep your upper lip stiff. Learn to smile and crack jokes.
21. Don't say, "I'll call", unless you intend to.
22. If you both had a great time, do call her the next day.
23. Drop your date at her house. It doesn't look good that after spending some great time together, she has to go home alone in a bus or a cab.
24. Most importantly, be honest.
